The Wanderers will travel to The Croud Meadow to face Shrewsbury in the EFL Cup.

After progression via penalties against Mansfield in the previous round, this second round tie is set up after the Shrews were victorious in their First Round venture, defeating Notts County through the lottery of spot-kicks. 

It’s a break from League One action after disappointment at the Valley as Wanderers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic, showing an indifferent start to life in the 2024/25 League One campaign. 

Their opponents would equally welcome the break from league football after their turbulent start to this season, which has left them rooted at this early stage, carrying over from their poor end to the previous campaign.

All form and head-to-heads go out the window in this one-off League Cup fixture, which takes place on Tuesday, August 27th, with a kick-off time of 19:45.
