Match Review Bolton 5-2 Reading

In a fixture that seemed like make-or-break for Ian Evatt, many parts seemed to click into gear in this particular game as Bolton comfortably dispatched Reading to earn their first home win of the league campaign.

The Whites have struggled to score many this campaign, but the introduction of Victor Adeboyejo seemingly brought the best out of everyone, including clinical striker Dion Charles, who claimed the match ball.

Straight from the off, it just seemed to click into gear for Ian Evatt’s men, who scored three unanswered goals from Josh Sheehan and a double from Charles, one from the spot, to be three up just after the half hour mark. Two more were netted as Reading cut the deficit before it was restored just on the break as Charles secured his hat-trick from 12-yards out once more.

Sam Smith duly converted a penalty for the visitors to net his second goal in three games for Reading this campaign, providing a slightly nerving climax, before Kyle Dempsey rounded off the scoring to round off a five-star display.

Bolton’s first home win since the 20th April last campaign was brought with overriding relief for the players, staff, fans, and especially the man in the hot seat, who expressed his gratitude and expressed how much the football club he was in charge of means to him.

A quick turnaround is expected as Evatt takes his men to the Emirates Stadium for a League Cup clash on Wednesday night before returning to league action this coming Saturday as they visit Crawley.
