Bolton Vs Oxford: League One Play-Off Final Preview
Ninety minutes plus extra time and penalties, if needed, are separating these two sides from the championship. Wembley awaits Bolton Wanderers vs. Oxford United.
The Whites narrowly clambered over the line against Barnsley in the semi-final, though their lead was more convincing for a while, until a late rally nearly let the Tykes back into it.
After a play-off heartbreak last season, this seems to have fuelled Ian Evatt’s men, and Bolton’s record under the arch has been relatively impressive, and a continuation of that will be in the minds of all on Saturday afternoon.
If Bolton were to win, they would mark a return to the Championship for the first time since 2019, where much adversity has been dealt with on and off the field.
They face an Oxford team that's had a similar run of form coming into this final, as well as another that's recovered well from on-field adversity in the last few years.
From near relegation to League Two last term to 90 minutes away from the Championship, it’s been a great turn around from Oxford and a whirlwind season that saw them lose their manager and recover superbly to finish in the play-off places.
Previously, Wycombe defeated the U's in the 2020 final, and Blackpool, the eventual winners, defeated them in the semi-finals.
Two sides, one prize. To join Portsmouth and Derby County. Who will it be?
