Top 10 Summer Cocktails: No 1 Gin Basil Smash

We have reached Number 1 in our Summer Cocktail series. Which one was your favourite?

Joseph Miller, top Mixologist at Blackfriars in Newcastle, and voted second best in the world by Brockmans Gin, has been revealing his Top 10 cocktails for this summer in readiness for the Great Northern Food and Drink Festival.

“These are the top most popular cocktails which we will be serving for the summer, as well as an extensive menu, but these epitomise summer in a glass,” explained Joseph.

1. GIN BASIL SMASH

This is our most popular cocktail at the moment at Blackfriars, and it’s easy to see why.

50ml Gin
25ml lemon juice
25ml sugar syrup
Handful of fresh basil leaves

Shake all ingredients vigorously in a Boston tin full of ice. Strain the liquid onto a short glass on the rocks and garnish with a basil sprig or two.
