Top 10 Summer Cocktails: No 2 Strawberry And Cucumber Cooler

We are down to the last two. Have you been trying them in this mini heatwave?

Joseph Miller, top Mixologist at Blackfriars in Newcastle, and voted second best in the world by Brockmans Gin, has been revealing his Top 10 cocktails for this summer in readiness for the Great Northern Food and Drink Festival.

“These are the top most popular cocktails which we will be serving for the summer, as well as an extensive menu, but these epitomise summer in a glass,” explains Joseph.

2. STRAWBERRY AND CUCUMBER COOLER

This is another cocktail that will be on my signature summer menu. Created by Assistant Manager, Ellie, at Blackfriars a few years ago, it is still very popular and is made with:

Chopped strawberries and cucumber
Brown sugar cube
Vanilla syrup
Gin
Lemon juice

Add all ingredients to a Boston tin and shake with ice. Strain out the mixture into a tall glass over cubed ice, and top with Bitter Lemon or a lemon tonic. Garnish with a cucumber wheel and a strawberry.


The Great Northern Food & Drink Festival takes place at Scampston Hall near Malton, North Yorkshire on 28th, 29th and 30th August.

There will be over 200 vendors and 20,000 visitors expected during the course of the three days.
