Silver Screen Weekly- What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 28 February

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

The Last Showgirl (15)
Director Gia Coppola’s acclaimed drama is one of awards season’s real hidden gems. Starring a resurgent Pamela Anderson in a phoenix from the ashes style comeback that has been called by many critics “the performance of a lifetime”, this film is an engrossing big screen experience. Telling the story of a seasoned Las Vegas showgirl who is immediately forced to plan for her future when the show she has been a part of for thirty years, is abruptly closed down. Co-starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista, this is a BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated treat that features an incredible comeback for Anderson at the Centre of this film about the fragile nature of showbusiness, dealing with ageing in an industry and life’s many turns as we go on.

Babymetal: Legend 43 - The Movie (U) (Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal perform live on stage in Okinawa.) - Friday 28th February
Padmaavat (12a) (Hindi epic that sees a Sultan lead an invasion to capture a Rajput Queen.) - Friday 28th February
Dragon Ball Z: Battle Of The Gods (Extended Cut) (12a) (Release of the extended cut of the 2013 Japanese animated fantasy based on the beloved franchise.) - Saturday 1st March
Jesus Christ Superstar Live Arena Tour (12a) (Production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's theatre sensation, filmed live on stage.) – Sunday 2nd March
Madama Butterfly Paris Opera 2025 (15) (New production of the enduring opera.) – Monday 3rd March
Purple Rain in Dolby Cinema 2025 (15) (Special Dolby exclusive re-release of the 1984 musical romance starring Prince.) – Wednesday 5th March
