Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 4th October

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 4th October

Joker: Folie á Deux (15)
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga unite in Todd Phillips' eagerly awaited sequel to his academy award winning visionary billion dollar hit based on DC Comics' legendary villain, in Joker: Folie á Deux. This bold and incredible sequel takes huge swings, as Arthur (Phoenix) awaits trial in Arkham Asylum following the riots he caused with his stunt as Joker at the climax of the first film. There he finds a fellow soul in his mad mad world in inmate Harley Quinn (Gaga), as the two find comfort in chaos, music and each other. Bucking the trend of lazy sequels, this film is a challenging, ambitious, tantalising and spectacular follow-up to the immensely successful original. That critics have called "cinematic dynamite" and "a genius take on the genre".

A Different Man (15)
Director Aaron Schimberg’s thought-provoking drama thriller A Different Man, stars Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson in a film that could be each of their finest work yet. Critically acclaimed as a darkly comic and dazzling movie, A Different Man tells the story of an aspiring actor who undergoes a radical reconstructive surgery procedure to transform his appearance, only to afterwards becomes obsessed with a stage actor in a play about his past. Provocative, wild and with a lot to think about, this one is a gem in the 2024 schedule.
