On Wednesday this week, Sheffield United will welcome Blackburn Rovers to Bramall Lane in another Championship game.
The Blades, who have had a tumultuous season, are going into the game off the back of two wins against Hull City and Watford. They currently sit in 12th place in the league on 57 points, halfway up the table. While they cannot be relegated, as they are 10 points clear of the drop zone, they also cannot reach the play-off places.
Blackburn currently sit in 21st place on 49 points, which is 1 place above the relegation zone. When asked about the remainder of his team's season, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said they can’t let the rest of the season “peter out” and they still “have a chance to climb.”
Wilder was appointed for a 3rd stint at the club in September 2025, after being sacked in June for not managing to achieve promotion for the club last season, despite being high flyers all along. It won’t be an easy game for the Blades though, with Blackburn not having lost in the last 7 of their games.
These 3 points on offer are crucial to the Rovers, as it would confirm their status as a Championship club for another year. Sheffield United secured their safety in their game against Watford last time out, with 2 goals from ex-Leeds man Patrick Bamford guaranteeing them all the points. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season, it was a 3-1 victory for Sheffield United at Ewood Park.
The game will kick off at 19:45pm, and will be available to watch on SkySports+.
