Michael Carrick lead Manchester United to a 2-1 victory at home, against Keith Andrews’ Brentford. Since his appointment in January, this marks the 9th win for Carrick’s side in 13 games.

This win came just over a week after a 1-0 win against Chelsea.

The first goal came in the 11th minute, where Casemiro headed a ball from defender Harry Maguire into the back of the net. Benjamin Sesko was responsible for the second goal, with just 3 minutes to spare of the first half.

This goal also means it’s the 19th assist for midfielder Bruno Fernandes; who could meet, or even break, the all-time record of 20 assists in the Premier League in the remaining few games.

Having had an incredible season so far, he is very likely to have a shoe-in for Player of the Year.

Throughout the whole of the match, Brentford were unable to capitalise on most of the chances which were available to them. The only goal from the away side came in the 87th minute, in the form of Mathias Jensen.

The loss at Old Trafford for Brentford means that they will miss out on qualifying for any European competitions. It also means that they have not won any of their 7 games.

While Brentford miss out on these tournaments, Manchester United are now only 2 points away from confirming Champions League football for next season.
This will mean Carrick’s promise to the technical director of the club will be fulfilled, which he made when he was assigned as Ruben Amorim’s replacement until the end of the season.

Manchester United will hope to seal the deal with a win against Liverpool on Sunday.
