More action-packed sport is waiting in the wings this week from all over the world be it the Women’s Euros, the latter stages of the CWC or what is turning out to be another exciting Super League season.

For the lowdown on what to take in this week look no further…

Tuesday 8th July FIFA Club World Cup: Fluminense v Chelsea 20:00

We have reached the semi finals of the Club World Cup and we have a battle between the surprise package in Fluminense and defending champions Chelsea. Brazilian giants Fluminense went through their group unbeaten with two 0-0 draws against Mamelodi Sundowns and an impressive stalemate over Dortmund. Their victory singular victory came in their second group game over Ulsan HD which left them second in Group F behind Dortmund on five points.

In the first knockout game they were drawn against Italian giants Inter Milan, many predicted this to be the end of their run but despite the odds against them they put in a solid performance and continued to fight the corner for South American sides as they won 2-0 with a goal in the opening minutes from Cano before Hercules put the icing on the cake in injury time.

The quarter finals brought Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal packed with former stars of the European game such as Milinkovic-Savic, Cancelo, Neves and Koulibaly. Despite the firepower on display Al-Hilal were still no match for Flu who won 2-1 thanks to goals from Martinelli and Hercules again.

Chelsea also finished second in their group behind another Brazilian side in Flamengo, their clash with the Brazilians has been their only loss thus far in the competition as they were soundly beaten 3-1.

The Blues did win their other two group games over LAFC and Esperance Tunis without a single goal conceded and then entered the knockouts with a 4-1 victory over Benfica then in the quarters they came up against another Brazilian side in Palmeiras which they beat 2-1 with goals from Cole Palmer and a late own goal from Weverton.

Wednesday 9th July UEFA Womens EUROS England v Netherlands 17:00

The Lionesses play their second game in the Euros this week in an attempt to retain their first major title which was won in spectacular fashion in 2022. The group contains one other former winner in the Netherlands who are the opponents this week who lifted the trophy in 2017.

Prior to the tournament both sides win their friendly matches with The Netherlands narrowly beating Finland 2-1 whereas England had a much more convincing display against Jamaica in which they won 7-0.

In the opening game of the tournament England suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to France which was manager Sarina Weigman’s first competitive European loss, ending a run of thirteen games unbeaten.

That loss has left them in third in Group D after Netherlands managed an impressive 3-0 win over Wales.

The Lionesses will be hoping that loss is not a sign of things to come as they attempt to retain their title but they now face an uphill battle in a situation that will seem completely foreign to a national side that has been prospering for years under Weigman and the current crop of stars.

Thursday 10th July Betfred Super League Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity 20:00

It is round 18 of Super League and we have yet another Yorkshire Derby between the East and West Riding as Trinity make the short trip to the MKM Stadium to face Hull FC.

Both sides are on the precipice of the playoffs with Wakefield currently in sixth place and on 18 points. Their last fixture was a resounding 44-6 victory over Catalan Dragons at the weekend in which Trinity turned on the attacking talent once again after a Speight of inconsistency having lost three out of four matches in June.

While they have recently received themselves of their poor form it has been an overall impressive season for Trinity back in Super League but their previous record over Hull in the top division does need some improvement as 2022 was the last time Wakefield got the upper hand.

Hull have been on somewhat of a barren run themselves with back to back defeats to St Helens and Warrington, in fact their last victory came against bottom side Salford which they beat 38-6.

The last time the two met was in late march where Hull ran out narrow 16-12 winners at the DIY Kitchen Stadium. There will be more at stake this time as just one point separates the two sides meaning a win for either would do wonders for the playoff push.

Friday 11th July Betfred Super League: Leeds Rhinos v St Helens 20:00

We have a double header of Super League action on display this week as another top of the table clash takes place with fourth place St Helens taking on Leeds Rhinos in third.

The Saints are on a stellar run of form with four wins on the spin including already beating the Rhinos 18-4. Their last loss came in another battle of the top sides where they were soundly beaten by league leaders Hull KR 34-4.

St Helens have struggled against top half sides this season as that win over Rhinos and their last encounter with Hull FC are the only victories over teams in the top six since April.

Despite the downturn in performances over sides towards the top, they have only managed to lose one of their last seven matches which gives them a huge sway in terms of momentum.

Luckily for Rhinos they are also on a positive run of form and have only lost one of their last eight games which was the loss to Saints. The Rhinos have made a big improvement this season as compared to the disappointment of 2024 in which they finished 8th.

The Rhinos made a massive statement on Sunday by beating the league leaders Hull KR 14-8 at Craven Park after initially entering half time eight points down. Brad Arthurs men came out in the second half with intent and orchestrated a brick wall like defence alongside flashes of attacking brilliance including a contender for try of the season from Miller who finished off some champagne rugby to hand KR their second defeat of the season.

That win sent the Rhinos into third and they now have the chance to continue an amazing run with another win back at home in front of what will be a bouncing Headingly Stadium.

Date: 11/07/2025 Time: 20:00 Venue: Headingley Stadium, Headingley The match will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event
