Back in 2025 there were five young women whose sole mission was to arrive fashionably late and still steal the spotlight. Formed with a vision to bring back the unapologetic fun of girl groups, XO teamed up with pop powerhouse Charli XCX to craft a debut EP that doesn’t just nod to the past—it struts confidently into the future. They were not meant to be whispering ballads from stools or asking you to dream quietly. No, they were the girls who wanted to shout it out loud, dance it bigger, and remind you that friendship, fun, and fierce vocals are the ultimate pop weapons.

While echoes of the Spice Girls, Mis-Teeq and Sugababes reverberate through their sound, XO are no mere tribute act. They are the next chapter in the girl group story — bold, stylish, and ready to take their place alongside FLO as leaders of the new wave. And with Fashionably Late, they’ve delivered a record that feels instant, alive, and impossible to ignore.

Before the choruses can explode, the EP sets the tone with glossy production and harmonies that shimmer like neon lights. And shimmer; they most certainly do. From the heartfelt punch of Real Friends to the cheeky swagger of Ponytail, XO prove they know how to get the party started. The latter, with its playful confidence and chant-along hook, is destined to be their Wannabe moment — the anthem that defines them and sends fans into a frenzy.

And once that frenzy begins, there’s no stopping it. Each track is packed to the brim with hooks, harmonies and attitude, the kind of pop that makes you want to sing along before you’ve even learnt the words. The beauty of Fashionably Late is that it’s clear XO are doing this as much for their own joy as for their audience. Rather than playing it safe, they lean into bold choices, crafting songs that feel both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

The EP proves that these five women with the power to pop it absolutely nailed their arrival.
