Welcome back to another week of sports, we hope our list of what is on offer this week will tempt you into spending midweek engrossed in dramatic action.
Tuesday 5th August Metro Bank One Day Cup: Yorkshire v Warwickshire / Birmingham Bears 11:00
The
Metro Bank One Day Cup opens this week with two first division sides facing off in Group B.
Yorkshire are newly back in
County Championship One and have been struggling to keep their heads above water having spent a lot of time in the relegation zone but now finally are above the drop zone in eight having beaten Sussex by 128 runs last week.
The Bears are having a much healthier season, they sit fourth in the league and are one point off of Somerset in third. They haven’t lost in the league since mid May and have only lost two of their last 11 matches in all competitions with the latest being a draw in the County Championship away from home against
Essex.
While Yorkshire may be picking up the wins recently they will have a much harder task when facing the Bears, a team that they have failed to beat since November last year. That is a three match barren run for Yorkshire who will be hoping that hoodoo can be lifted and turn what has been a mostly disappointing league season into a potentially uplifting cup run.
For the Bears the same is true as if they fail to catch up to Somerset, Nottingham and Surrey above them in the County Championships a deep cup run or win could be the only reward for what has been a positive season.

Thursday 7th August Betfred Super League: Leigh Leopards v Leeds Rhinos 20:00
To
Super League action on Thursday and we have a top of the table clash to gets tuck into as fellow current playoff inhabitants
Leigh Leopards welcome
Leeds Rhinos to Leigh Sports Village.
Leigh are the better performing of the two thus far with 29 points which has them in third spot. They are in a hot steak of form too with four on the bounce and just one loss in their last eight Super League matches.
Their most recent outing was a solid victory over
Warrington Wolves where the Leopards fought back from 8-2 down at half time to run out eventual 20-16 winners thanks to a Hanley double and a late Trout try.
The Rhinos are three points behind Leigh in fifth place but have been in patchy form recently, with only one win in their last three. Their last win was a 42-6 hammering of a
Salford side languishing at the bottom of the league.
The Rhinos almost got a result over another playoff side in
Wakefield Trinity in their last fixture with a closely fought affair having to be decided by a last gasp Lino drop goal that left the score being 15-14 to Trinity.
A win for either is vital with Leigh looking to get into the top two and being only a point behind
Wigan in second. The Rhinos have the chance to also get a further stranglehold on the playoffs and reduce their three point gap to Leigh.

Friday 8th August EFL Championship: Birmingham City v Ipswich Town 20:00
The opening night of the
Championship season is this week and it is the turn of two new boys to the division with recently relegated
Ipswich who travel to St Andrews to take on newly promoted
Birmingham City.
Ipswich were the surprise package of the year when they managed to get automatically promoted from the Championship a season after doing the same in
League One so unsurprisingly they then struggled in the
Premier League.
The Tractor Boys fought valiantly for much of the season in the top flight but ultimately found themselves finishing in nineteenth and were sent straight back down to the Championship.
Since the relegation, Ipswich have been rather quiet in terms of acquisitions as just four new faces have arrived, the most notable being former England international and Premier League stalwart Ashley Young as well as the £11.5m signing of Azor Matusiwa from Stade Rennais.
Their biggest departure has been Liam Delap, who moved to Chelsea for a £35.5m fee but the tractor boys are yet to replace the Young Lions striker.
Birmingham will be coming into this season full of confidence having just smashed the EFL points record in a single season as they smashed League One with three losses and 111 points.
With new backing in the form of Tom Brady at the helm of the club they have been tipped to be more than safe in the second tier. That thought has been confirmed with the signings they have been making with Championship proven acquisitions in the form of Gardner-Hickman from Bristol City and Osayi-Sammuel from Fenerbahçe.
The most surprising signing has been ex Celtic star man Kyogo Furuhashi who joins from Stade Rennais for £9m.
This match will be a good indicator of both side’s credentials in the second tier with Ipswich hoping a return to the Premier League beckons while Birmingham need to consolidate and show their worth in a higher standard league.
