With the World Cup coming to a close, fear not, as there is still a litany of high-octane sporting action taking place across the region.

From the throwing of darts to the swing of a bat and the clash of a tackle, there is all to play for still this midweek.

Monday 20th July PDC Betfred World Matchplay: Luke Humphries v Cameron Menzies, 20:50

The PDC returns to The Winter Gardens in Blackpool once again for an exhibition of high-class Oche action.

Many stars have already taken to the stage with this year’s Premier League contestants, with Luke Littler, Stephen Bunting and Josh Rock already picking up victories.

It is now the turn of Premier League finalist Luke Humphries to join the next round. Cool Hand comes into this off the back of a stellar display in the US Darts Masters, where he swatted away superstars Stephen Bunting and Gian van Veen in the early rounds before squaring off with world number one Luke Littler in the final.

Humphries scored a sensational 104 average in Madison Square Garden and became champion after beating Littler 8-7.

He will be hoping to continue his winning ways against Cameron Menzies, who is looking for an upsurge in form after back-to-back 6-5 losses to Jan Scmidt in the European tour and Owen Bates in the Players Championship.

Prior to those results, the 27th-world-ranked player had been on a stellar run of nine matches but now has to come back against a darting superstar in Humphries.

Despite his form and history as a solid player, he is most well known recently for his antics in his World Championship loss to Charlie Manby, where he injured his hand punching the underside of the drinks table on stage.

He will be looking to take that image out of people's minds and replace it with a statement victory over Humphries in what would be just the third win over him in nine meetings.

Tuesday 21st July The Hundred: MI London v Sunrisers Leeds, 18:30

The sixth edition of The Hundred takes place this week; the fast-paced 100-ball matches return to light up the world of cricket and hopefully attract more spectators to one of our earliest sports and proudest institutions.

The tournament was set up to create a more diverse audience away from the regions' format of county cricket, which some complain about due to its lengthy match play.

We have some newish faces in this year with many sides changing their names, including the two competing this Tuesday, as Oval Invincibles are now MI London and Northern Superchargers have become Sunrisers Leeds.

More changes came this year, as after an initial direct signing period, a draft was used to secure names for each team. Alongside these changes there is also now a period of 25 innings in which the fielding side is only allowed two fielders.

This will no doubt speed up play and make for more runs on the board. With groups of eight the top spot will automatically reach the final, whereas the second and third spots will make up the semi-final.

The Sunrisers will be hoping they can continue what has been a positive record over London, as the Yorkshire side have beaten the side from the capital in the past two years.

MI London are the most successful side in The Hundred's history under their old name, Oval Invincibles, as they have won the past three tournaments on the spin.

Leeds will have much motivation to take down the giants in London, and they have the chance to kick off their tournament in style with a statement win.

Thursday 23rd July Betfred Super League: Hull FC v Hull KR 20:00

One of Super League’s biggest rivalries continues on as the two sides from East Yorkshire clash at the MKM Stadium.

The hosts, Hull FC, have had a somewhat torrid time in 2026, in a newly expanded top division where they were expected to excel amongst a host of new and returning faces.

However, instead of lapping up the opportunity of taking points from sides getting to grips with the Super League, they have struggled and find themselves towards the foot of the table in 13th.

FC haven’t won since a 36-12 victory over bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield Giants in mid-June, as they currently find themselves on a barren run of five straight defeats, with the most recent being at the weekend, where they were slain on the road to Leigh with a 32-22 scoreline.

Revenge is on the cards for FC, who have already played their bitter rivals in this run, where they were soundly beaten 26-12 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium during Magic Weekend.

Hull KR have had a disappointing season themselves as defending quadruple winners; with hopes high for another stellar season they have faltered in many games they were expected to win.

Starting with an opening day defeat to top-flight new boys York RLFC, the cracks were beginning to show and have persisted with other shocking losses to Catalan Dragons and Wakefield.

There have been positive runs along the way also, with a nine-match winning run from March to May which has helped them, but they still need a positive result in this one to reclaim a spot in the top six.

They were bumped out of sixth place at the weekend after their defeat to Warrington, in which they conceded 22 unanswered points in the first half and only went on to get 12 in the second period to be ultimately beaten 34-12.

They now sit on 22 points and two behind St Helens, meaning a big enough win against FC will make them recapture their spot in the playoffs and give them a better standing when continuing the rest of the season.

With both pride and league position on the line, a meeting between the two sides has more behind it for either KR to bolster their place or for FC to stop their rivals in progressing further.

Friday 24th July Betfred Super League: Wakefield Trinity v Castleford Tigers 20:00

Another replay of Magic Weekend is to come, as on Friday it is the turn of West Yorkshire to clash with Wakefield hosting close neighbours Castleford.

This is once again a meeting of two sides that have been worlds apart in 2026, with Trinity having a stormer of a season and firmly within the top six.

After 19 matches, Wakefield have only lost five times and have looked to improve exponentially on their sixth-placed finish and early exit from the playoffs last year.

They have only lost once in their last nine matches, which was a damning 48-10 defeat to Wigan Warriors at Belle Vue in mid-June.
Since then it has been five wins on the spin, with the most notable being a statement 20-6 victory over Hull KR.

The biggest indictment on the chasm between the two who met this weekend was on Magic Weekend, where on Merseyside they hammered Castleford 48-6. It was a routine victory at the weekend also as they clashed with another West Yorkshire outfit in Bradford Bulls and came out 26-12 winners in that win.

The Tigers have seemed a world away from their rivals, with just six wins overall in what has best been an inconsistent season with damning losses to York and Toulouse whilst also picking up surprise wins against Wigan and St Helens.

Head coach Ryan Carr seemingly demands high standards which have been rarely met recently, with just one win over Toulouse being the only bright spot in their last six matches where they have lost five.

With current Wakefield boss Daryl Powell being a true great at Castleford, the Tigers will be hoping they can still get one over on him and make up for a stinging Magic Weekends result with a league victory that would do the world of good for confidence.
