Tuesday, 28th April, Enterprise National League North playoffs: Buxton v Scarborough Athletic 19:45

While the first Champions League semi-final is underway, another match promises to be just as exciting and filled with drama as Scarborough enters the playoffs as the only Yorkshire team competing for a spot in the National League.

It has been a long road for The Seadogs, who have had to pick themselves up as a phoenix club from the Northern Counties East League after their founding in 2007 following the winding up of Scarborough FC.

After four years in National League North, it may be time for The Seadogs to finally reach the fifth tier for the first time in the young history of the new club.

The Seadogs finished in sixth place with 73 points after a season fraught with off-the-field mix-ups, as they had to leave their home at Flamingo Land Stadium and groundshare with Bridlington due to the 3G pitch suffering issues.

Despite this, the action on the pitch has been more consistent, with just one loss in their last 12, which has set them up perfectly for the incoming playoffs.

Unfortunately for Scarborough, that one loss came against Buxton away from home. Buxton also finished on 73 points but, due to their superior goal difference, claimed fifth spot.

Unsurprisingly, Buxton are also on a fantastic run that has seen them win all but two of their last ten matches.

Many of us are hoping for another Yorkshire side in the National League, but The Seadogs will need to be in top form to make it to the next round.

Date: 28/04/2026

Time: 19:45

Venue: Tarmac Silverlands Stadium, Buxton

The match will be shown on DAZN UK.

Wednesday 29th April Champions League: Atletico Madrid v Arsenal 20:00

The Champions League semi-finals are upon us, and we have chosen to focus on what could be one of the biggest nights in one of England’s biggest clubs' recent history, as Arsenal look to make it to a second Champions League final and win the elusive trophy.

The gunners have been lambasted amongst English top-six club discourse for their failure to make a mark in the Champions League. With Arsenal having only made one final in their history, which ended in them conceding two goals in the final 15 minutes and losing 2-1 to Barcelona.

After years in the wilderness of failing to get past the early knockout rounds, Arteta’s men have now made it to consecutive semifinals for the first time.

Last year it was eventual champions PSG who dumped them out, but Arsenal will be hoping the same fate will not befall them. Especially against a side that they have already beaten 4-0 in the league phase.

Despite that win, Atletico do have the distinction of never having been beaten by an English side in a UCL knockout match. For Simeone’s men, that record needs to remain for a side that is also chasing their first UCL title.

Both sides do have the unwanted record of having the most appearances in the competition without winning it, but all that could be rewritten with two more victories. They both seem evenly matched too, with Atleti having pedigree in European competition, having progressed from all but one of their last seven European semi-finals.

Arsenal are also the only team to go through the league phase with a 100% record, which could play in their favour for a match that could be pivotal in both clubs' history.

Date: 29/04/2026

Time: 20:00

Venue: Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid.

The match will be shown on TNT Sports 1.

Thursday 20th April Betfred Super League: Hull KR v Castleford Tigers 20:00

We are approaching ten games into the 2026 Super League season, and with it things are starting to take shape at both ends of the table.

Castleford’s visit to Hull is a meeting of sides at opposite ends of the spectrum, with the Tigers looking to build some space from the bottom while the Robins are hunting to tighten the space between them and the summit of the league.

It was another Yorkshire derby for both teams last weekend; Friday saw Castleford undo all their hard work from their surprise away win at Wigan to get dismantled by Hull FC at Wheldon Road in a 50-10 match that saw Cas concede five tries in the second half.

That loss kept the Tigers on six points and 12th in the table with six losses and three victories in a start that has been anything but consistent.

Hull KR are defending quadruple winners but have not taken the league by storm for a second time. They have already lost three of their opening eight matches, and two sides they have expected to beat, including York Knights and Catalans Dragons.

Despite a slow start by their standards, the Robins’ form has picked up recently with four consecutive league wins, including statement victories over St Helens and bitter rivals Hull FC.

Their last outing was a convincing 48-12 victory over Bradford Bulls, a result which KR will be hoping can be replicated against a Cas side that is lacking in solidified form and confidence.

Castleford will need another shock win and valiant performance if they are to get through this one unscathed, whilst Hull will be determined to creep ever closer towards the top two.

Date: 30/04/2026

Time: 20:00

Venue: Craven Park, Hull

Friday, 1st May Premier League: Leeds United v Burnley 20:00

The Premier League is nearing its finish, but all is still to play for at both ends of the table. With two sides already relegated, it is now time to see who will take the final spot and take the plunge back into the Championship.

Leeds look in position to avoid the drop, but only with more of the same form that has seen them create a gap to Spurs in 18th.

The Whites are currently six points ahead of the drop after a period of sustained form that has seen them unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches.

Their last match against Bournemouth almost ended that run as the Whites found themselves 2-1 down until Sean Longstaff hammered home a 97th-minute equaliser.

It was then onto the FA Cup semi-final where, after a hard-fought battle, they succumbed to a first-half Enzo Fernandez header and were knocked out.

It is now time for Leeds to focus on the league and make sure that their season does not end in further disappointment. Their opponents Burnley have already experienced the blow of relegation and, in theory, have nothing to play for. But we all know that strange things can happen, and despite the gap that Leeds have forged, a loss in this one and wins elsewhere for West Ham and Spurs could spell warning signs for the few games left.

The Clarets have not won a league fixture since the start of February, but they would definitely like to put a dent in Leeds’ survival chances, as the Whites pipped them to the Championship trophy last season.

Venue: Elland Road, Leeds
