Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 8th December 2023

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 8th December

Wonka (PG)
Wonka just might be one of the tastiest prospects of the year. Timothée Chalamet is the candy making, innovating, eccentric, chocalateering magical master of confectionary in this prequel story about how a young man called Willy...became Wonka! From the director of Paddington, and co-starring the likes of Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman and Hugh Grant! This is a cinematic treat based on Roald Dahl’s iconic character that critics have raved is "a new Christmas classic".

Chicken Run: Dawn Of The Nugget (PG) - also on Netflix from 15th December
The chickens are back in Aardman Animation’s long awaited sequel to their 2000 smash hit! As Ginger (Thandiwe Newton) and Rocky (Zachary Levi) are now parents and living the perfect life at their sanctuary, but when danger comes calling from the mainland, in a seemingly idyllic place with a sinister force driving it, this time the chickens need to break in, instead of out and save their lives, their friends, their family and their freedom! Dawn Of The Nugget is an exciting sequel which takes us back to one of Aardman’s most endearing creations, and is full of witty British humour and exciting claymation thrills.
