Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 26th January 2024

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 26th January

The Colour Purple (12a)
The Colour Purple is a bold new take on a classic, inspired by Alice Walker's 1982 novel and the stage musical based upon it, and produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones. A coming of age musical drama, the film tells the story of sisterhood and how it can guide us through some of the harshest and most dangerous times in our lives. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R. and Halle Bailey, this passionate, triumphant and visionary take on an iconic story by director Blitz Bazawule is a huge contender at this year's awards season. The Colour Purple pops with its performances, hits you with its meaning and emotion, and is filled with memorable musical numbers.
