Silver Screen Weekly - What's Coming Up At The Cinema From Friday 11th August 2023

Our film critic and media correspondent has been looking and trawling the new releases. Here's what you can see on the big screen this week.

From Friday 11th August

Haunted Mansion (12a)
Based on the Disney theme park attraction, director Justin Simien’s supernatural horror comedy is a spooky ride for the family. The film sees mansion owner Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) and her son Travis (Chase W. Dillon) enlist the help of a team of investigators (LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito) to exorcise their mansion of the nefarious spirits that inhabit it. Packed full of outrageous action set pieces, macabre laughs and spine-chiller thrills, this reboot of Haunted Mansion looks to step out on its own, while also tipping its hat to the past too. The film co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto.

Gran Turismo (12a)
From the director of District 9 Neil Blomkamp comes this interesting film inspired both by the PlayStation video game series of the same name, and the true story of British racing driver Jann Mardenborough, a teenager whose actual skill playing the games led to him becoming an actual professional driver. Starring Archie Madekwe, David Harbour and Orlando Bloom, Gran Turismo is an inspiring, exciting and rewarding biographical sports drama that takes its incredible true story and puts its foot down in delivering a real crowd pleasing cinematic experience!
