Manufacturer achieves carbon neutral waste through strategic partnership
Oadby Plastics, one of the UK’s largest independent plastics suppliers, has reinforced its commitment to sustainability by achieving carbon neutral waste and reducing single use plastic waste.
The Leicester-based company supplies both semi-finished plastics and custom-machined parts via its national branch network and through a strong recycling strategy, has put over 1,100 tonnes of production waste back into industry since the start of 2023.
As part of a wider sustainability initiative, Oadby Plastics has also achieved 99 percent landfill diversion through its partnership with tech-first waste management company, Envirovue.
Since working with the Envirovue team in August 2024, a robust strategy has been implemented to track, manage and minimise waste across production and facilities, whilst continuing to deliver high-quality products to its clients.
Lancashire-based Envirovue has so far processed more than 450 tonnes of waste that has been accurately tracked, transported and processed across multiple sites.
Jack Tipper, Quality & Environmental Manager at Oadby Plastics said: “While we always strive to maximise material yield and process efficiency to minimise waste, CNC manufacturing is a process that naturally generates a lot of waste; however, working with Envirovue has enabled us to have detailed insight into waste streams, giving us the power to reduce inefficiencies and ensure our waste management is fully aligned with our sustainability goals.
“Achieving carbon neutral waste is an important milestone and one we’re proud to build upon as we continue to invest in sustainability initiatives. We’re also pleased that our offsets are used to fund various CSR projects in developing nations, from education and healthcare to wildlife preservation and clean energy.”
In addition to its waste management strategy, Oadby Plastics is also focused on reducing its energy related emission and uses renewable energy systems to generate power, further reducing its carbon footprint.
Emma Cooke, Operations Director at Envirovue, added: “It’s fantastic to work with Oadby Plastics, a great example of a business which has taken a forward-thinking approach to sustainability.
“At Envirovue, we’re proud of our bespoke technology that creates a real-time database of waste, allowing continuous tracking of evolving waste streams and associated carbon emissions, enabling landfill diversion at scale and aiding the creation re-use strategies.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Oadby Plastics as they build on these impressive achievements.”
