A Manchester-based logistics firm has reported 186% growth over the last three years by ditching the traditional industry reliance on physical fleets and warehouses. DeliveryApp, which has rebranded this week to Zippd, has scaled its operations by integrating existing third-party infrastructure into a unified digital network.
The move comes as traditional logistics models face increasing pressure from the rapid expansion of online marketplaces. Many retailers struggle to match the delivery speeds of global e-commerce giants without possessing the same vast physical assets. Zippd claims its network-based approach can reduce marketplace lead times and costs by up to 40% for its partners.
The company focuses on "asset-light" logistics, acting as a tech-driven orchestrator rather than a haulage firm. This allows businesses to scale their shipping capabilities rapidly without the capital expenditure required to build a private fleet.
In one instance, the firm integrated a same-day delivery and two-person handling network for a major e-commerce marketplace within two weeks—a process that typically requires months of operational planning. The company currently works with several high-profile UK retailers, including THG, Next, and Wren Kitchens.
Gemma Taylor, Co-founder of Zippd, said: “This rebrand is about more than a name change; it reflects how we are evolving with the changing landscape of ecommerce and logistics. New-age marketplaces are transforming the commerce landscape, but infrastructure hasn’t kept up. Zippd connects the pieces, bringing together technology, network and operational expertise, delivering a new approach to fulfilment that gives brands more control and flexibility than ever before.”
The North of England, particularly the M62 corridor connecting Manchester and Leeds, has become a central hub for UK logistics and "LogTech" (logistics technology) firms. By leveraging Manchester’s growing reputation as a technology centre, Zippd is positioning itself to bridge the gap between traditional Northern manufacturing/retail powerhouses and the global digital economy.
