Lancashire Homebuilder Helps Pupils Dig Into Children’s Gardening Week

St Francis Primary School, located close to the housebuilder’s Bernets Nook Development received a donation of a selection of spades, rakes and watering cans for its pupils to make use of.

The school on Cherry Tree Lane has received support from the housebuilder, with a previous donation of 20 tonnes of soil that has helped to transform the school’s outdoor areas.

Catherine Foster, headteacher at St Francis Primary School, said: “We’re grateful for the support and donations we have received from Barratt Homes. They have helped to enhance the school's outdoor space for our pupils.”

National Children’s Gardening Week is an annual festival that’s celebrated in homes, schools and community groups across the country and supports the Greenfingers charity, which is dedicated to providing magical gardens for children in hospices suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

The children at St Francis Primary School can now look forward to planting and taking care of a range of flowers and plants as they continue to learn more about nature and maintain their outdoor space.

Alan Watt, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Manchester, said: “We hope our donation of gardening equipment to St Francis Primary School will continue to help the children have fun planting as it enhances their ability to learn more about our natural environment.

“Children’s Gardening Week is a fantastic opportunity for schools to encourage their pupils to think about the benefits of gardening, so we’re pleased to have done our bit to enable St Francis Primary School’s children to do so practically.”

Located on Brokenstone Road, Bernets Nook enjoys excellent access to a range of local facilities, including restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops. The community features a stunning collection of homes, many of which benefit from beautiful views across neighbouring farmland, giving residents a real sense of peace and space while still being close to everyday amenities.
