Kash Ali says he is determined to rebuild his career and prove he still belongs among Britain’s top heavyweights as he prepares to return to the ring later this month.
The Rotherham fighter, who holds a professional record of 22 wins with 12 knockouts and three defeats, is scheduled to face Phil Williams in Sheffield on April 24 — his second bout since losing to Joe Joyce.
Reflecting on that defeat, Ali insists he was far from his best when he stepped in with Joyce, citing underlying health issues and injuries at the time.
“It was a big opportunity which was very difficult to refuse,” he said. “But I went in there unknowingly with serious health issues and injuries. I wouldn’t even say I was 50%. We took a chance and came up short — live and learn.”
Ali is now training out of Unity Boxing Gym in Rotherham under former professional Atif Shafiq, alongside his brother Abdul Majid, as he looks to rebuild momentum after what he describes as a difficult period.
Despite the setback, the former IBF European champion remains ambitious and believes his best form has yet to be seen.
“I’m in this sport to have the biggest fights and test myself against the best,” he said. “At one point I was ranked in the top 10–15 in the world. Injuries held me back, but at my best I genuinely believe I can beat anyone from British to world level.”
A potential rematch with Joyce has not been ruled out, and Ali also has his sights set on domestic honours, including the prestigious British title.
“Of course I’d love to win the British title, regardless of the opponent,” he added.
Looking at the wider heavyweight scene, Ali says there are plenty of appealing match-ups in Britain, with names such as Richard Riakporhe, Jeamie Tshikeva and David Adeleye all potential future opponents.
For now, his focus is firmly on his upcoming return in Sheffield, where he is eager to put on a performance for fans and continue his comeback.
“I’m excited to be fighting again — this is all I’ve ever known,” he said. “It’s been a tough couple of years, but I want to put on a good show and build myself back up.”
