Ethan Daintith, a teenage electrical apprentice, is celebrating a major sporting milestone after receiving a callup to the Senior Men’s Great Britain Ball Hockey squad.
Daintith, who plays ice hockey for National Ice Hockey League Division 1 North side Hull Jets, is currently balancing his elite-level sporting career with a Level 3 Installation Maintenance Electrician apprentice at Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE).
On his call-up to the Great Britain squad, 19-year-old Ethan Daintith said: “I really wasn’t expecting it, so it was a massive surprise. It’s an amazing feeling to be selected to represent Team GB again, especially at senior level.
“It’s a step up from the age groups I’ve played in before, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge and heading out to Czechia.”
The hockey star, who has skated from a young age, played over 30 times for the Jets in the 2025-26 season, with the youngster also making three appearances for the Hull Seahawks last season.
Alongside Daintith’s ice hockey career, he has also been progressing through the ranks of Ball Hockey in Great Britain, for which he has been selected to compete in the upcoming ISBHF Men's World Championships.
On Daintith’s senior squad call-up, Great Britain Men’s Ball Hockey Team Luke Browne said: “I’ve worked with Ethan through the GB Under-23s programme and have seen his development firsthand. He’s had an excellent ice season with the Hull Jets, and his consistency, professionalism and commitment have earned him this opportunity.”
“Moving from Under 23s to senior international level is never guaranteed – it must be earned. Ethan’s work ethic and team first attitude meet the standards we expect, and we’re excited to see him represent Great Britain at the highest level.”
The up-and-coming hockey star has previous international-level experience after he represented England Under‑19s and GB Students in ice hockey and then Great Britain Under‑23s at ball hockey.

Away from his sporting achievements, Daintith is completing his apprenticeship with HTAE while working for Paragon ID at Sutton Fields, and he credits both organisations for supporting him in both his work and sporting successes.
On his career outside of hockey, Daintith said: “Becoming an electrician is something I’ve always wanted to do. My grandad was an electrician, and I used to help him with small jobs growing up. Watching him really inspired me to follow in his footsteps.
“When I left school, someone recommended the electrical apprenticeship route at HTAE, so I kept an eye out for vacancies. Finding that opportunity wasn’t easy at first, so when I was offered the chance to learn on the job and earn at the same time, it was a proud moment. My dad works at Paragon ID as a graphic designer, so we’re keeping it in the family!”
“[On his apprenticeship] I’ve had the same tutor, Gareth Dixon, for four years, and he’s been brilliant – always taking time to support you one‑to‑one.”
“HTAE and Paragon ID have been great in supporting both my career and my sport. I’d recommend an apprenticeship to others. You gain real experience, practical skills and qualifications and earn money, all while doing something you enjoy.”
Daintith, alongside the rest of the Great Britian Men’s squad, will continue to prepare for the ISBHF Men's World Championships which will take place in Ostrava, Czechia.
Team GB will compete in Group B and will face the Cayman Islands, Austria, Germany, India and France over consecutive days from Saturday 20 June.
