Sheffield-based healthtech startup Motion, founded by University of Sheffield graduate Zeezy Izenman, has secured over £250,000 in a combined funding round of angel investment and an Innovate UK grant. The funds will be used to scale its digital care platform nationally across the UK’s £26.2 billion residential care sector.

Motion’s platform is already used by care homes serving more than 3,000 residents and is designed to improve outcomes for older people while enhancing operational efficiency. The company’s approach has drawn attention from both healthcare specialists and experienced entrepreneurs, signalling strong confidence in its potential to disrupt a market still largely reliant on manual systems.

The technology addresses a key challenge in care delivery: communication between care providers and families. While care homes often provide high-quality services, a lack of visibility into day-to-day care can reduce customer satisfaction and affect occupancy. Motion’s software automates family engagement and reduces paperwork for staff, offering measurable returns for operators.

“We've identified a clear market need with quantifiable business benefits,” said Zeezy Izenman, CEO and founder. “Care providers see ROI through reduced administrative costs and improved family satisfaction, whilst we're building a scalable technology business in a large, stable market.”

Originally developed as a university project, Motion has since evolved into a growing commercial venture. Its co-development approach with end users has fostered strong product-market fit, helping to secure contracts with multiple care providers.

Claire Rintoul, CEO of Sheffcare, commented: “The Motion team are incredible—they're very skilled and we love having them working with our care homes.”

The fresh capital will support further product development, expansion of Motion’s sales team, and strategic partnerships with major operators in the care sector. The company has also received national media recognition from The Times and the BBC, bolstering its reputation as a rising force in UK healthtech.
