Goldbringer - Evocative And Imaginative

If you like your music arty, evocative and imaginative then this is certainly for you. Goldbringer seeks to bring together disparate themes from music, art and culture and mix it all up in his very own cinematic soundscape. With his new album, Soundtracks, available now, we caught up with Goldbringer to find out what songs make him...

Smile

'The Godfather' by Fantômas. This was the track I walked down the aisle to at my wedding. I always smile at the memory of the attending registrar who wasn't quite prepared to hear Fantômas at a wedding ceremony! One of the happiest days of my life, obviously!

Contemplate

'Fugitive Motel' by Elbow. It's a very melancholic song, but rather than make you want to cry, it takes you to a thoughtful, reflective place. It's a feeling that is hard to describe, a lot like Elbow's music. But it's very powerful.

Cry

The instrumental 'Fluff' by Black Sabbath. It hits me right in the feels every time I hear it. This track has been with me since I was a child. It's such a great, timeless moment on the magnificent album 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'.

Laugh

'Spanish Flea' by Herb Alpert. An incredibly catchy and hilariously wondrous composition that literally goes with anything! I'm chuckling now just thinking about it!

Want to work out

It has to be the Rocky Theme by Bill Conti. Or the 'Training Montage' from Rocky IV by Vince Dicola. I think watching the Rocky films is the only thing that makes me want to work out!

Reminisce

'The Ring Goes South' by Howard Shore , from the Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack. It was a crazy time in my life and an exciting time for cinema with Peter Jackson delivering what Tolkein fans had been dreaming of. It was also very exciting from a musical perspective, knowing that Howard Shore was scoring the trilogy made it all the more exciting!

Relax

Anything by Blockhead. His music helps me think, work, and relax. 'The Magical Intimacy Camel' from his latest album is a favourite at the moment.

Feel Determined

'A New Level' by Pantera. It never fails to make me feel as energised and indestructible as it did the first time I heard it. The lyric from the song literally says “DETERMINED”. Classic.

Dance

'Lady Marmalade' by Labelle. This song has that kind of 70's groove that's so good to move with, so funky, so full of attitude.
