Yorkshire-based coatings distributor, Corksol UK, has recently appointed two new recruits as part of a long-term plan to bring new talent into the construction industry and raise awareness of sustainable building products and techniques.

Keen to support the younger generation, whether that be in house or through their applicator network, Corksol UK has been working with universities in the North to offer paid placement opportunities to graduates looking to get their first foot on the ladder as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

Declan Forth has recently completed his degree in animation at the University of Salford and joined the Corksol team in March 2021 as Sales and Marketing Assistant. A new position for the business, which has never had a dedicated in-house marketeer, Declan will work with the team to deliver trade marketing campaigns and cutting-edge animation designs.

Daniel Smith also joined the Corksol UK team at the same time, taking on the six-month placement following his history studies at the University of Huddersfield. Daniel joins the team as Operations Assistant, hoping to gain practical experience and new skills that will benefit him for the future.

Joff Ward, director at Corksol UK, comments: “As soon as we heard about the scheme, we were keen to do our bit to help young professionals get into the industry. Experience is everything these days, so we hope by providing paid placements we can teach Declan and Daniel some valuable skills to apply in their next roles.

“I was really impressed with the quality of candidates that were presented to us through the scheme. I couldn’t recommend it enough to any employer looking for some extra support, perhaps in areas they are stretched with, or in new avenues they would like to explore.”

Paid placements provide opportunity to gain valuable experience, but can be difficult to secure. The Government’s Kickstart Scheme helps fast-track aspiring young professionals, either students or graduates aged 16-24, into the world of work, gaining valuable experience at companies covering a wide range of sectors, while putting employers in direct contact with the next generation of talent.
