Blackpool is getting ready to say “goodbye” to 2021 and “hello” to 2022 with a spectacular seafront firework display.

VisitBlackpool has confirmed that the free family event will go ahead at 5pm on New Year’s Eve at the Christmas By The Sea village on the Tower Festival Headland.

The fireworks will be launched from the beach in front of The Blackpool Tower to create a stunning finale to end the year.

A VisitBlackpool spokesperson said:
“It’s the perfect way for families to come out and celebrate the start of a new year in one of the country’s most iconic outdoor settings.”

The firework display forms part of Blackpool’s biggest ever programme of festive entertainment.

The centrepiece of the Christmas By The Sea Village, which is supported by Northern, is a giant synthetic ice skating rink which is free to use and includes skate hire. There are 40-minute sessions available daily from noon until 8pm each day until January 3. No advance bookings are required, simply turn up to the session you wish to attend.

Alongside the rink is the breath-taking Star Flyer ride, a forest of twinkling Christmas trees, log cabins serving a range of food, drink, gifts and souvenirs, light installations including a giant illuminated bauble, tram rides and regular artificial snowfalls to create the full alpine experience!

The world-famous Illuminations are also shining from 4pm each night as part of an extended season that ends on 3 January.

This year’s Illuminations display includes Frost Fairies, a newly-created 3D light projection show on the front of the Blackpool Tower building.

Specially produced by video projection artists Illuminos, Frost Fairies is an enchanting children’s story of fairies, fireflies, precious jewels and ice palaces.

Just a short walk away from the Christmas By The Sea village, visitors will find the Winter Gardens Wonderland with a fantastic range of indoor and outdoor Bavarian-style market stalls, funfair rides, virtual reality experiences, and entertainment suitable for all ages. In the adjacent St John’s Square, there is a spectacular 30ft Christmas tree.

Visitors to Blackpool can park on the majority of Council-owned car parks for just £1 for three hours. The offer, which is being funded by Blackpool Council and Blackpool Town Centre BID, is available using the PayByPhone app.
