As the country settles into the second lockdown, the team at Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has announced plans for a virtual whisky tasting event.

Between 7 and 9pm on Thursday, 10th December, the team at the Hunmanby-based distillery will take to the cloud based communications app, Zoom to deliver a tutored tasting including a selection of the oldest Yorkshire whisky ever tasted, never before seen cask samples, and the distillery's latest bottling, Filey Bag Flagship.

The session will be led by Distillery Co-Founder, David Thompson and Whisky Director, Joe Clark, who will be answering questions about the four samples in the tasting pack, as well as giving an insight into the distillery's field to bottle process that includes growing 100% of the barley used in the production of Yorkshire's first single malt whisky.

Mr. Thompson said:

"We hosted our first virtual tasting back in July and it was so successful that we repeated it in October with a ‘Winter Warmer' theme. The December event is called ‘Christmas Cracker' so it gives you a hint of what to expect!"

The tasting packs include four samples, a nosing glass and tasting notes, and cost £30. They are available online from spiritofyorkshire.com.

Spirit of Yorkshire was launched in 2016 and is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery, and business partner, David Thompson. The distillery uses barley and water sourced from the distillery farm, and boasts some of the most impressive distilling equipment in the country, including two of the largest Forsyth pot stills operating in the UK outside of Scotland.
