These days there seems to be a special day for almost anything - so why not one for chocolate. And who doesn't like or even love chocolate?

Well today is World Chocolate Day. Every year on the 7 July the day is devoted to chocolate. Chocolate comes in varying varieties be it milk, plain, white or even mixed with various flavours. It can be a luxury enjoyed on its own or in numerous delicious desserts.

History of Chocolate

About 2,500 years ago the Aztecs discovered liquid chocolate and used cocoa seeds as currency. It is thought that the cocoa bean plant (known as Cacao) had been growing wild for over 10,000 years. The chocolate drink was not like our present day chocolate as sugar had not been introduced so it was quite a bitter drink sometimes mixed with herbs and spices.

Black Sheep Brewery have rounded up their best chocolate flavoured beers for World Chocolate Day.

Choc & Orange Stout by Black Sheep – RRP: 10 x 500ml bottles - £20.50

Chocolate and orange is a match made in heaven, and this beer is a perfect blend of the two iconic flavours.

This rich and deep stout features big chocolate notes from the blend of dark chocolate malt, and a velvet-like body from the flaked oats used in the mash. Dried orange peel adds a subtle citrus note to this flavour packed ale and make it the perfect accompaniment to a large slice of chocolate fudge cake.

Raspberry and White Chocolate Milkshake IPA by Black Sheep – RRP: 12 x 440ml cans - £50

This Raspberry and White Chocolate Milkshake IPA is like cheesecake in a pint glass.

The sharp contrast of tart raspberries with milky white chocolate results in an impeccably balanced IPA with a symphony of flavour.

Hints of vanilla offer further complexity, whilst added lactose brings the flavours together through a velvet body and silky mouthfeel.

The perfect accompaniment to a large scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream!

Milk Stout by Black Sheep - RRP: 10 x 500ml bottles - £19.50

Voted Europe’s best dark beer at the International Brewing & Cider Awards 2019, Milk Stout is a velvet, creamy stout packing notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee.

Brewed with lactose and a robust malt blend, Milk Stout offers a satisfying sweetness that cuts against a light bitterness, pairing perfectly with any sweet and smoky barbecued foods.

So why not indulge yourself in chocolate and celebrate in style on World Chocolate Day!
