Viva Brazil Steakhouse And Grill, Liverpool

A taste of South America has found a faithful following in Liverpool - Viva Brazil Steakhouse and Grill is a concept that has been tried before but it seems here that they give you more of everything - food, service and atmosphere.

Tucked away minutes from the busy shopping area the restaurant I found was friendly, welcoming and most of all the food was excellent.

If you decide on the full rodizio you will be offered an unlimited supply of 10 meat cuts if you go at lunchtime or 14 cuts if you go in the evening. All the cuts are cooked on an authentic Brazilian BBQ and carved at your table. The price for lunch Monday to Friday is £15.95 or £18.95 on weekends. Dinner is £26.95 every day.

The price includes as many trips as you wish to the salad bar with a huge selection of hot and cold Brazilian dishes.

If you go for the meat selection you simply turn over the coaster on your table to green then when the Passador passes your table he knows that you would like to try whatever meat he is carving. If you need a break from eating then you just turn your coaster to red.

There is a card left on your table which details all the various meats. The Passadors stamp your card so they know what meat you have tried but don't worry if you want some more of a particular meat, you can ask for more as all meats like the salad is unlimited.

They tend to cook the steak dishes medium-rare as this is the Brazilian way, but as I like my meat well done this wasn't a problem as they accommodated by preference without hesitation. No wonder they have a regular clientele as it is somewhere we would definitely return to. to.

The Smoked Gammon had a crisp outside and was succulent and tasty. I found the Sirloin Steak to be well marbled with a beefy flavour and the garlic and chilli it was seasoned with gave a subtle spice taste.

I particularly enjoyed the Brazilian Sausages which had a hint of leek to give them a delicious taste whilst the Chicken Hearts appeared to be marinated in garlic and wine for a robust flavour - not for the faint hearted!

If you do have room for desserts then you might enjoy the Cheesecake de Frutas - Papaya Cheesecake with a layer of passionfruit coulis - tangy and tasty with a good firm base.

The selection of ice creams helped to break down the fats from the meat and were fruity and actually tasted authentic.

By the time we left the restaurant was nearly full and I can understand the appeal. You will leave absolutely stuffed. If you like meat you will be in paradise, just remember not to fill up too much on the salad bar!
