The Grand Prix of the Eifel will take place at the Nürburgring on 11 October, although it cannot be called the German Grand Prix as the rights to this title are owned by the Automobilclub von Deutschland which holds races at the country’s Hockenheim circuit.

On 25 October there will be a Portuguese Grand Prix at the superb Portimão facility in the Algarve and a week later the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna will be held at the Imola circuit in northern Italy, the track where we sadly lost the iconic Ayrton Senna back in May 1994. Due to the 1500 mile distance between the Portuguese and Italian venues the event at Imola will be shortened to a two day weekend duration rather than the usual three.

These additions bring the confirmed total to 13 races and, with two further ones in Bahrain and a finale in Abu Dhabi set for December, this will increase the tally to 16. There will however be no events in the Americas this year, with the Grands Prix in Canada, the USA, Mexico and Brazil all cancelled due to the pandemic and the impact on F1’s complex international logistical requirements. Liberty Media’s Chase Carey raised hope for next year though, explaining “We want to pay tribute to our incredible partners in the Americas and look forward to being back with them next season when they will once again be able to thrill millions of fans around the world.”

In the short term attention will of course now focus on our very own Silverstone circuit where the next two rounds of the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship will be held very shortly.
