Matchday 16 saw lots of football action in Yorkshire this weekend, following the international break last week, albeit some fixtures fell foul to the wintry conditions.

Sheffield United faced Coventry City away from home, grabbing one point at the Coventry Building Society Arena. With Tyrese Campbell and Jesuran Rak-Sakyi scoring, The Blades fought hard for a point after going down to 10-men late in the first half, with the match ending in 2-2 draw.

Rivals, Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with Cardiff City. Unlike Sheffield United, The Owls had most possession throughout the game and scored through Di’Shon Bernard in the 36th minute, securing a point for the home side, after Cardiff had opened the scoring just two minutes earlier.

Middlesborough grabbed three points away at Oxford with a convincing 6-2 win. A goal blitz for ‘Boro’ saw Emmanuel Latte Lath score a hat-trick, Finn Azaz grab a brace and Scotland international, Tommy Conway getting on the scoresheet. This outstanding away win on Saturday sees Middlesborough in 5th place in the Championship table with 27 points.

Hull City travelled to Luton Town for their 16th league game of the season. Unfortunately, The Tigers left Kenilworth Road defeated after Luton’s Mark McGuinness scored the first and only goal of the clash in the 33rd minute. Hull City go on to face Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday next week, entering the clash on poor form, having failed to win a game in the past seven fixtures.

Back in Yorkshire, and on to League One, where Barnsley lost 1-0 to Wigan Athletic who scored just before half-time through their star-man, Thelo Aasgaard. Another tough test awaits for the Tykes when they meet Reading on Tuesday night, as they fight to remain in the playoff positions.

Just above Barnsley in the table, are Huddersfield Town, who welcomed Charlton Athletic to The John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, in challenging conditions. A 2-1 win with goals from Matthew Pearson and David Kasumu was enough for The Terriers to secure all three points and push them up to 5th in the table.

Town, who are now unbeaten in six league matches, had playmaker Herbie Kane to thank for another outstanding performance in the centre of the park.
A bottom of the table league clash saw Rotherham United lose 1-0 away at Crawley Town. Opening the scoring early in the first half, Crawley produced a good defensive performance to keep Rotherham at bay.

In League Two, Doncaster Rovers took away one point from their match against Carlisle United following a goalless draw. The away side did find the net, but an offside flag ruled off Cameron Harper’s possible winner. Doncaster remain in the top three of the league table with 29 points; with attention turning to the FA Cup for an away trip to Kettering next weekend.

Another away fixture for one of Yorkshire’s sides came in League Two, with Harrogate Town getting the better of Gillingham, 2-1. Anthony O’Connor and Josh March got their names on the scoresheet as The Sulphurites picked up another valuable three points, pulling them further away from the relegation zone.

In North Yorkshire, non-league York City put on a show as they comfortably beat Yeovil Town.
A 4-0 win was the perfect way for York City to respond following their defeat last time out against promotion-chasing rivals, Forest Green Rovers. Ollie Pearce took home the match-ball following his hat-trick, with Tyrese Sinclair also getting on the scoresheet. With Forest Greem dropping points at Southend, The Minstermen returned to pole position in the National League.
