The Writer's Way: Develop Your Writing and Improve Your Wellbeing at Settle Stories

This March ‘The Writer’s Way’ begins at Settle Stories’ venue The Joinery. This is a writing and mindfulness course that will run on the first Saturday of every month from 10:30am - 4:30pm until July. Participants will be invited to perform their work at Yorkshire Festival of Story during the first weekend of August.

The course commences from the belief that when writers are given the space to reconnect with their thoughts, they are able to produce their most honest and authentic writing. Participants are invited to devote five Saturdays of their year to developing their writing ability and improving their wellbeing. Facilitated by author, poet and mindfulness practitioner Pete Armstrong, this course will put participants in touch with their inner selves. Sessions will focus on creating compelling narrative, believable characters and dialogue. There will also be coaching on how to combat writer's block and develop productive methods of writing. The final session will be run by professional storyteller Sita Brand who will instruct attendees on how to use their tone, pitch and body language to communicate their work.

The Writer’s Way is open to writers of all abilities. By the end of the course participants will leave with a positive relationship with their writing, a renewed sense of motivation, the tools to get their writing noticed and a piece of work they are proud of. This unique course is perfect for people who want to write but find it difficult to find the structure and time in their lives to do so.

Pete Armstrong comments on the course:

“Through contemplative awareness, participants will discover inner truth, the narrative inside that needs to be told. It is a transformational period; one that searches for truth and delivers creative success.”

The course will cost £160 for the full five workshops and will include a 45 minute individual Skype session with Pete. Each session will be available in isolation for £40, but Settle Stories recommend participation in the full course to see real improvement. The course is suitable for ages 18 and over, and will commence on Saturday 7th March, 10.30am – 4.30pm.
