Supercar Manufacturer McLaren Opens Leeds Showroom

McLaren Leeds, a brand-new McLaren retail facility, officially opened last night with a launch event featuring iconic supercars from the fast-moving marque’s legacy as well as the recently launched McLaren GT and McLaren Senna GTR. The event was attended by both existing and prospective customers.

Appointed as an official retailer in May 2018, McLaren Leeds has been serving the McLaren community from a temporary facility at its new site. With the opening of the new showroom McLaren customers across the north-east of England will be able to choose and configure McLaren cars as well as benefit from the high level of customer service associated with the brand.

McLaren Leeds will offer the entire McLaren sportscar and supercar range, including the new GT and the 600LT Spider and 720S Spider models launched earlier this year.

The team at the retailer will also be taking expressions of interest for the recently announced open-top car that joins the sold-out McLaren Senna, McLaren Senna GTR and Speedtail models in the coveted Ultimate Series line-up.

The new McLaren GT, which was on display at the launch event, can be ordered now, costing from £163,000.

In addition to these exciting new models, the McLaren Leeds team will also be selling cars from the McLaren Qualified Programme for used vehicles.

Operated by Park’s Motor Group, which also features McLaren Glasgow in its portfolio, McLaren Leeds arranged a breath-taking selection of supercars for the showroom opening. This included landmarks from McLaren’s spectacular past and present, including the F1 ‘XP5’ – the three-seat car that set what was then the top speed record for a production vehicle of 240mph in 1998.

It was joined by a McLaren P1, the world’s first hybrid hypercar; a McLaren Senna and the new McLaren Senna GTR, the most extreme car yet from Woking, and the quickest track McLaren outside of Formula 1.

Even rarer than these Ultimate Series cars was a McLaren Senna built from almost half a million LEGO bricks in just under 5,000 hours. This unique 1:1-scale LEGO car features working lights, infotainment system and realistic engine sounds activated by a push of the roof-mounted starter button.

The new servicing area was utilised for an additional display featuring a McLaren Special Operations (MSO) 720S and a carbon fibre-themed 675LT Spider. Continuing McLaren’s ‘Longtail’ heritage, which began with the legendary F1 in the 1990s, the limited edition 675LT Spider was hailed by critics as an instant classic when it was launched in 2016.

Yorkshire has become a key UK region for McLaren, which has recently opened the McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) in Sheffield. This facility will innovate and manufacture the carbon fibre chassis ‘tubs’ that form the heart of every McLaren car and, appropriately, the McLaren Leeds servicing area display was completed by a 720S chassis structure. The event was also attended by Rob Melville, McLaren’s Design Director, who hails from the region.
