Blackburn-based insurance broking firm JM Glendinning North West has become a patron of Pendleside Hospice, contributing much-needed funds which will go towards elements of the day to day running of the Hospice.

JM Glendinning has made a donation of £1000 which will go towards the provision of care for people in Burnley and Pendle who have incurable and life-limiting illnesses. The Hospice provides high-quality, individualised care that focusses on compassion, dignity and respect, providing support for families, both throughout the illness and after a patient has died.

The Hospice is well known for organising a number of fundraising events throughout the year. However, due to Covid restrictions it has not all been possible. Instead, the Hospice has been staging virtual events including a recent quiz hosted by Jordan North, and is currently in the throes of organising a ‘Megaraiseathon’ in place of its usual annual Corporate Challenge.

Christina Cope, head of corporate fundraising at Pendleside, says: “On behalf of Pendleside I would like to say a big thank you to JM Glendinning Insurance Brokers, and all the team there. Joining our patron scheme as a gold patron is a wonderful way to show support for Pendleside. All our patrons will receive a number of benefits, but the real benefit will be knowing they are helping to fund specialist care for patients and their families when their need is greatest.”

Says Matthew Stuttard, MD at JM Glendinning North West: “It has been a difficult year for everyone, and it’s been an especially difficult time for the charity sector which relies heavily on community fundraising activities. We can’t thank the team at Pendleside enough for everything they do for our local community and how they have continued to provide such a high level of support for individuals and their families, despite how difficult the current circumstances have been.”

Whilst Pendleside has been unable to hold its regular fundraising activities, the Hospice has managed to increase its bed capacity from 10 to 18. The Hospice is currently looking after 100 patients with its ‘Hospice at Home’ nursing staff and offering support to district nurses and to local care homes. Its bereavement team is giving much needed virtual counselling support to anyone in the Burnley and Pendle areas, not only those whose loved ones we cared for.
