Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay talk Phoenix Nights, Manchester in the 90s, and reveal the origins of Peter Kay’s famous ‘garlic bread’ joke in a short video filmed whilst travelling with TransPennine Express.

The two funny men feature on ‘Comedy Connections with TransPennine Express’ which is available exclusively via TPE’s on-board Exstream service and the train operator’s website.

In the clip, Paddy details his visits to Affleck’s Palace in the 90s, his interesting dress sense and how Peter Kay’s famous ‘garlic bread’ joke actually started as ‘baked beans’.

Exstream is a free on-board entertainment service that enables customers travelling on TPE trains to stream a host of Hollywood films and unmissable dramas straight to their mobile devices or laptops.

The service gives customers the chance to view more than 150 shows and films, including dramas such as Gunpowder and Versailles and films such as The Good Liar and Joker. Younger customers can spend their journeys watching kids TV favourites including Ben 10 and Adventure Time.

And, for customers who’ve had their fill of TV, there is a selection of popular magazines – including Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health and Stylist, as well as a newsfeed from Reuters and several newspapers.

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Experience Director at TransPennine Express, said: “Since launching our Exstream entertainment service, thousands of travellers have read their favourite magazines, caught up on hit shows and watched Oscar winning films, all from the comfort of their seats.

“Our customers can now be kept company by the likes of Cillian Murphy, Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen as they head towards their Northern and Scottish destinations or can get lost in a host of magazines and podcasts. The free service is there for all to enjoy.”

The service now also features a live real-time journey tracker, so customers can access arrival times, onward connections, platform information and bus connections, making journey planning stress free.

Also available on Exstream are a series of podcasts on loneliness, with each podcast exploring a different theme. TPE recently partnered with the Campaign to End Loneliness and including these podcasts on Exstream helps support the vision to raise awareness of the issue of loneliness.

To access Exstream, customers need to download the TPE app via the app store, allowing them to seamlessly connect to Wi-Fi when joining TransPennine Express on their next journey.
