Now Disco Classics – Boogie Nights (Now Music)

It’s time to get your groove on with this huge selection of disco classics. With 87 floor-fillers spread over four CDs, there is something here to suit every party playlist.

ABBA start the party off with 'Dancing Queen', the track that somehow brings tears to many a disco lover's eyes. Who could resist the 1979 number one from Gloria Gaynor: 'I Will Survive'? Nile Rodgers gives us the Chic hit, 'I Will Survive', and he turns up again on the Sister Sledge anthem, 'He’s the Greatest Dancer', and again in quick succession on the Sheila B. Devotion hit, 'Spacer'. He went on to work with Diana Ross whose tracks he co-wrote and produced and are included here with 'Upside Down'.

It would not be a disco album without the Village People and 'YMCA'. The track is still played today at most Christmas parties, including the arm movements that accompany the 1978 hit.

CD2 begins with the track that defined the disco sound: 'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer. McFadden and Whitehead might sound like a firm of solicitors, but the duo brightened up the summer of 1979 with the sublime 'Ain’t No Stopping Us Now'.

The Real Thing has a second bout of success with 'Can You Feel The Force'. Apparently the track was performed at the end of their gigs, until someone spotted the hit potential of the song.

Sadly missed, Barry White offers 'You're the First, My Last, My Everything' before Nile Rodgers returns again on CD3 with Chic’s 'Good Times', and with Sister Sledge on 'We Are Family'.

'Relight My Fire' is better known with the Take That version, but here the Dan Hartman original shows that when Take That recorded the track, they didn’t deviate too much from Hartman’s version.

Cleethorpes-born Rod Temperton went on to write many of Michael Jackson’s hits, such as 'Thriller'. Prior to this, he was in the group Heatwave who deliver the boogie classic 'Boogie Nights' that warmed up the start of 1977.

The English contingent continues with Leo Sayer who says that 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing', and Tina Charles who had a 1976 hit with 'I Love to Love'.

Abba got the disco bug with 'Voulez Vous' who end this fine collection.

If some of Michael Jackson’s biggest songs and the Bee Gees had been included, a five star rating would have been awarded.
