Nexus Delivers Record 20,000 Rentals In One Day

Nexus Vehicle Rental, one of the UK’s tech driven mobility provider, is celebrating a record peak period, which saw the business facilitate 20,000 rental vehicles in operation on just one day.

With a spike in seasonal retail deliveries and additional waste to collect, the festive period is a demanding time for the fleet and logistics industry and there is greater pressure to ensure operations run smoothly.

Consumer habits and online retail are driving the need for on-demand mobility supply networks to serve distributed workforces in remote locations.

In December 2019 it was reported that online spend contributed 21.3% of total retailing within the UK; a 2% increase on the previous year.

In these busy periods, Nexus has seen a rising demand for daily rental, especially from logistics businesses and couriers that need to scale-up their fleets quickly to meet customer expectations, which now include same-day-delivery and even same-day returns.
Operating the UK’s largest supply chain of 550,000 vehicles from over 2,000 locations, from electric cars to 32-tonne refuse vehicles, Nexus uses innovative technology to connect customers to any vehicle, anywhere, anytime. It can usually deliver vehicles within two hours of a booking being made through its award-winning rental booking and management platform, IRIS.

David Brennan, CEO at Nexus Vehicle Rental, said: “To achieve 20,000 rental bookings on a single day during our peak period is a great success for Nexus. Every year the amount spent online during Christmas increases and with it the demand for a fleet of vehicles needed to distribute goods across the country.

“Each year, we see couriers, waste removal and logistics companies faced with increasing pressures to meet the expectations of both retailers and consumers. This is where Nexus has been able to plug the gap, by providing companies with flexible rental solutions, enabling our clients to expand their fleets at busier times and scale back in quieter periods.”

Each year Nexus manages 200,000 individual vehicles on behalf of clients, including 66,000 commercial vehicles and 6,000 HGVs following a dedicated HGV rental booking platform launched in 2017.
