Local housebuilder Miller Homes, is supporting Hollymount Care Home in Blackburn with a donation of specialist hardback books for dementia patients. Just over a mile away from Miller Homes’ development, the housebuilder has frequently undertaken community initiatives like this with the care home, various local organisations and nearby primary schools since beginning work on the Millrose development.

The books donated by Miller Homes, produced by a company called Pictures To Share, have been designed to engage and entertain people with mid to later stage dementia. They can be used to help reduce feelings of depression, isolation and agitation and can help to promote meaningful and enjoyable communication with friends, family and carers. Book topics range from memories of 1950s and 1960s, to pets, gardens and the seaside.

Miller Homes donated a number of books to Hollymount Care Home as part of an ongoing pledge to support the local communities where it builds. The award-winning housebuilder is currently bringing a collection of 3 and 4 bedroom homes to popular Blackburn development, Millrose, as well as other regions across Lancashire and the North West. Other recent activities involve donating Amazon Fire tablets to local primary school, Lammack, and supporting the nearby youth zone.

Tracie Harrington, Activities Coordinator at Hollymount Care Home said “We were so grateful when Miller Homes got in touch and offered us the donation of the dementia care books. What a great idea and organisation, we’re so happy to have been involved and look forward to a good relationship in the future.”

Nicola Inganni, Regional Sales Manager at Miller Homes North West adds “We will continue to support the members of the Blackburn community, young and old, as we bring new homes to the region at our Millrose development.”
