Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure (Virgin)

On her fourth album Jessie Ware delivers her sultry take on disco and funky grooves. There is a bit of early Blondie in there with a mix of Prince and latterly Roisin Murphy.

She picks up on some of the best elements of these genres and puts them into a huge melting pot, resulting in one of the most satisfying albums of the year.

The theme of the lyrics throughout the album is of lost love, lust and the mood of the tracks slips between reflective ballads and euphoric dance numbers.

Spotlight opens up the album: it could be an Imagination track around their Music and Lights period in that this track has that early 80's influence. The title songWhat's Your Pleasure is all breathy vocals on a track that you might expect Kylie Minogue would do if she decided to look back over pop's glory years.

Ooh La La La has roots back in New York 80's disco such as heard on songs like Wordy Rappinghood whilst Soul Control has a huge hook that would make the song a good contender to be released as a single.

Mirage (Don't Stop) was actually a single last November, the song is an atmospheric one that weaves into your head that sounded perfect on cold misty autumn days.

The album ends with Remember Where You Are, a multi layered vocal track with a soulful edge that Swing Out Sister would be proud to own.

Every time I hear the album I hear something new, the tour next spring is something to definitely mark in your diary.
