Is There A Sunshine Saturday 2021?What is it?
Sunshine Saturday is normally the first weekend in January after the festivities and everyone has gone back to work.
It is a day which seems to have been invented by the travel industry as being the day that thousands of people book their summer holidays. The cold weather seems to have set in along with the winter blues after the post-festive season of Christmas.
Most people are back at work even though the majority are working from home because of coronavirus and the lockdown. Last year more than a million people went online or visited the high street travel agents to book their summer getaways.
According to the booking patterns of the last five years, last year Sunshine Saturday saw bookings hit an all time high. This year with covid and the lockdown things are likely to be very different. High Street travel agents are closed due to the lockdown and so it will be online bookings only. On a positive note the vaccine is here and is being rolled out so hopefully our much needed summer holidays will be on schedule.
Deals to be had...
The major travel agents advise us that there are a lot of fantastic deals to be had in the month of January and people who book early get access to thousands of free child places. Another reason for booking early is so that you have something to look forward to.
Sunshine Saturday is the boost that Brits and the travel industry need. But be careful and make sure that you only book destinations on the government’s travel corridor list.
Check about the cancellation policy of the tour operator and don't forget your travel insurance, but take note that at present no travel insurance policies offer cancellation cover for changes in government advice due to Covid19.
Be sure to follow the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) advice as their website states:
“Choosing to go to a country against our travel advice may seriously restrict any help we can provide and may also mean that your travel insurance is not valid”.
So will you be booking your Summer Getaway this weekend – or perhaps a Staycation is a safer option!
