Interview With Julia

18 year old singer Julia first rose to prominence on the 2015 series of The Voice Kids in France. Following her appearance, where she formed part of Louis Bertignac's team, she continued to build her profile via YouTube. It was here that she caught the attention of the acclaimed duo Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, who took Alizée from Graines de Star contestant to international icon. They took her under their wing and built her own sound, which was realised earlier this year with the sensational album, "Passe... comme tu sais". We caught up with Julia to learn more.

First of all, hello and how are you?

Hello, I am doing very well. Thanks.

Tell us about "Passe... comme tu sais"...

My album "Passe… comme tu sais" is a mixture of all my emotions, my sorrows, my joys and all my questions. This album... it's me.

What inspired the record?

My feelings, my doubts, the things in my life that are prominent for most of the time. Times already gone by.

Tell us a bit about your creative process...

My producers compose, write. They then make me discover their work. And I dive into a recording studio and lost myself in a sense of total immersion as it's my turn to create. My voice; my interpretation.

If the album were an animal, what animal would it be?

A cat obviously!!!

Define your sound in five words...

Pop
Electro
Dance
Happy
Melancholy

What was the first song that caught your attention?

The song "Mon héritage" bowled over me the first time I heard it. The music, the words ... Everything was there to awaken buried emotions.

What is the first song you bought?

Rihanna's "Stay"

And the first album?

My parents gave me Queen's first album when I was about 10 years old.

What is the best concert you have ever seen?

Mylène's without a doubt.

I also loved the "Paléo Festival" in Switzerland, where I first discovered DJ Feder on stage.

What did you learn from experience that you translated in your own shows?

I learned the word patience. That you had to take the necessary time to provide work that is successful.

I laughed a lot and met some great people. It's great.

Which other artist are you most looking forward to hearing from?

I can't wait to discover Adele's next album. She is an artist who has always known how to talk to me about
through her songs, her lyrics.

If you could work with them, what do you hope to create?

Music!

Comparisons with Alizée are inevitable given the production team on the album. What do you think about this?

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Quite the contrary And if I'm as successful as her, I would be delighted.

Would you consider a collaboration with Alizée?

It’s not relevant, but why not.

If you had to choose three artists alongside, who would they be and why?

Lady Gaga for the "Showgirl" side.
Ed Sheeran for emotion.
And Pop Smoke for the quirky and American side!

If you could play with a living or dead artist, who would it be?

Ed Sheeran or maybe Bruno Mars.

If you could have written a song by another artist, what would it be?

"Still Loving You" by Scorpio

Someone is making a movie of your life, who will play you?

Me, I'd imagine...

Finally, tell us something that you have never revealed in an interview ...

I love tattoos and I love MY tattoo.
