As foreign countries frantically try to dodge changing quarantine announcements in the UK, ‘local’ hotels are reporting bumper bookings.

The luxury Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa near Keswick in the north of the Lake District says it has seen a large spike in late summer bookings following its successful reopening in July.

And August has been its busiest August on record with occupancy upwards of 95% as guests choose to extend their stays into five and seven night breaks compared to previous years. Room revenue has also seen a 40% uplift in the same period with September booking numbers at 90%, a first for the hotel.

Armathwaite Hall’s award winning spa, which is currently bookable in two-hour time slots, continues to be a major draw for visitors along with the area’s walking trails and neighbouring Lake District Wildlife Park.

Guests are arriving from all areas of the country with the majority resident in Cheshire, the South East/London, Northumbria and Lancashire.

Speaking on the boost in bookings, Simon Steele, General Manager, said: “The first weekend we traded at 65% occupancy which was fantastic but then it has just continued to grow exponentially, surpassing our expectations.

The Lake District has always been a popular place to escape to with its majestic fells, spectacular lakes and clean air but I believe after recent months, our guests are appreciating its natural beauty even more.”
