Arts charity Settle Stories are inviting children to settle down for bedtime with their new YouTube series, Matilda’s Bedtime Stories. In the five minute videos, storyteller Matilda recites legendary fairy tales alongside her cuddly toy friends. There are six episodes to be aired for free this autumn. Families are encouraged to come back to the channel each week to discover what tales Matilda will tell next.

Jessica Harris from Settle Stories, comments:

I hope that these fairytales will give little ones and parents a break from all the scary news at the minute. It was great to make these videos and be reminded of the brilliant and brave characters in these tales.

Settle Stories firmly believe in the power of storytelling to enrich lives: in uncertain times, traditional stories may yield clarity and direction. The staff team hope that this fun series will offer families a peaceful escape from a daily diet of forbidding headlines and renewed fears. It is hoped that Matilda’s Bedtime Stories will remind audiences why fairy tales are loved worldwide.

Hansel & Gretel

Rediscover this infamous Brother’s Grimm tale where kindness and teamwork conquer evil. Matilda takes children on a brave journey with Hansel and Gretel from their father’s cottage, to getting lost in the woods, to the gingerbread house where they escape a cruel hungry witch!

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Who’s been sleeping in my bed? Join Matilda, Goldilocks, Mama, Papa and Baby Bear on this cheeky, fun adventure.

The Ugly Duckling

Glide along with Matilda as we dive into her cuddly duck’s favourite story! After rejection and mean treatment, the Duckling shows that there is always more than meets the eye as he finds his own way in the world and turns into a gleaming white Swan.

Jack and The Beanstalk

This moral of this tale is as old as time, and dates all the way back to the eighteenth century. When opportunity knocks, Jack takes advantage of it and makes the best out of a bad situation! Matilda tells the story of how Jack defeats a giant to reunite his mother with music, money and joy.

Rapunzel

Retold time and time again, Matilda dives into the world of Rapunzel. Learn how one Princess’s patience and hope eventually give her a well deserved happily ever after.

The Elves and The Shoemaker

In another of Matilda’s favourite stories, children hear how kindness and hard work are rewarded. The shoemaker is amazed time and time again when more shoes are made in his workshop overnight. When he discovers Elves doing the handiwork, he and his wife reward them, and all their lives are changed for the better.

Matilda’s Bedtime Stories is a free fun series for all the family. The videos are available on Settle Stories’ YouTube channel. The first video will be uploaded on Friday 30th October and the others will be published each week and then available to view 24/7.
