National Rail’s recommendations for breath-taking Interrail train journeys and experiences this Autumn include:

Netherlands – Amsterdam

Travel to Amsterdam to explore the Netherlands in its full autumnal splendor (reservations are compulsory on Eurostar but Interrail customers get a special Passholder rate!).

Explore the city's charming canals, soak up the wondrous works of the Dutch Masters at the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, and experience the vibrant nightlife in neighborhoods like Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein. Netherlands is a great starting point for any Interrail trip into Europe.

Slovenia – Lake Bled
Steeped in beauty and legend, Slovenia’s honey pot, Lake Bled, is radiant in autumn. As the seasons change, enjoy the mosaic of autumn colours along the tree lined shore while taking a gondola across to Bled Island and its beautifully situated Pilgrimage Church, framed by the magnificent Karavanke Mountain Range.

On your return, don’t miss their local delicacy, kremna rezina, a cream pastry considered such a delicacy that in 2016 the Slovenian government designated it a protected dish. Then, why not travel on to one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals, Ljubljana, only an hour away by train.

Germany - Black Forest
Try an autumnal train ride through the Black Forest as its dense woodlands burst into vibrant colours of red, yellow and orange.

From Offenburg to Hornberg this train passes through abundant meadows and quaint towns, through cool pine forests and all the way to your final destination – Lake Constance, one of Europe’s largest freshwater lakes. The route is 150km long and ascends 650 meters.

Interrail Passes valid for Germany can be used on all Deutsche Bahn run Black Forest Train lines.

Hungary – Budapest
Budapest gives the budding explorers the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in its rich history. Witness the bullet holes and shrapnel pockmarks on buildings as you uncover the history of what happened during WW2 and the 1956 uprising.

Enjoy goulash with one of Hungary’s excellent wines at a local eatery before continuing your evening at one of its world-famous ruin bars.

If you’re a fan of hot springs, the city’s thermal baths are the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long walk along the Danube. Then, enjoy a scenic train ride to your next destination, with Vienna and Bratislava both easily accessible from Budapest.
