Windsbacher Knabenchor
Director: Ludwig Böhme
Lautten Compagney

Sony Classics/ Deutsche Harmonia Mundi - 00761

The Windsbacher Knabenchor, a boys' choir, performs a delightful program of popular Christmas favourites, all in special versions, along with lesser-known treasures, such as Felix Mendelssohn's grand motet Frohlocket, ihr Völker and the ancient hymn Veni, veni, Emmanuel, spanning centuries of festive music.

Teaming up with members of the Lautten Compagney Berlin, the choir from Windsbach, Germany, founded in 1946, is composed of around 120 boys and young men aged 9–19 and features a wonderful blend of baroque instrumentation and choral traditions, offering a fresh interpretation of Christmas favourites from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and showcasing a variety of musical styles and traditions. It highlights a wide range of Christmas traditions, from beloved English classics like Greensleeves to vibrant Latin American pieces like Ariel Ramírez’s La Peregrinación.

The selection of repertoire truly demonstrates the choir's excellence, showcasing their warmth and beauty in tone, as well as their superb control, precision, and blend.

Pure voices and delight, full of Christmas spirit.
